NED KELLY ADVENTURE TOURS offer you unprecedented access to public and privately owned sites that have direct links to the Kelly story.
A Ned Kelly Adventure Tour is a 700km round trip back into history.
We offer weekend packages as well as day tours to sites in Kelly Country. See the sites of Kelly Country over a weekend or spend a day following the footsteps of the Kelly Gang. Our day trips include sojourns to Stringybark Creek/Mansfield/Power’s Lookout or Old Melbourne Gaol/Wallan/Beveridge/Benalla/Glenrowan and Greta.
Our most popular tour by far is our Ned Kelly Adventure Weekend. We start by showing you the site of Ned’s trial in 1880, and then you enjoy an EXCLUSIVE tour of the Old Melbourne Gaol - see the actual scene of Ned’s execution on that fateful November morning in 1880. Then you’ll see where the original Gaol cemetery was located.
You’ll see the sites of Ned’s childhood; where the Kellys were living when Ned was born; where he lived as a little boy; and where he first learnt to read, write and first attended church. We have morning tea at the historic Quinn homestead, once home to Ned’s maternal Grandparents and site of many Quinn/Kelly/Lloyd family gatherings.
At Avenel see inside the magnificent former Royal Mail Hotel, familiar to the Kelly family; the site of the Avenel Common School attended by Ned and his siblings, the site of his rescue of schoolmate Richard Shelton, the Kelly farm site and Ned’s father's grave.
Visit Kelly sites in Benalla and view the famous green silk ‘sash of honour’, awarded to Ned after he saved Richard Shelton from drowning at Avenel and later worn by Ned under his armour at Glenrowan.
Let us take you through Ned’s years as a young man, his time with legendary Bushranger Harry Power and his early clashes with the law.
You’ll learn all about Ned’s plans to establish a Republic in Kelly Country and have a full detailed tour of the Glenrowan Siege site. Stand on the spot where Ned was finally captured, the location of the Glenrowan Inn,Thomas Curnow’s schoolhouse and the spot where the Gang attempted to derail a train full of police.
You’ll see the heart of Kelly Country - Greta, Oxley and Milawa. After arrival at Beechworth, we enjoy a sumptuous meal in the cellar of the historic Hotel Nicholas. Warmed by a good feed and a few drinks, we walk to the top of the main street and show you through the dark corridors of the recently unlocked Beechworth Gaol.
Day two of our tour is spent in and around the Beechworth area - see where the Kelly family and many of their friends appeared in court and the actual site of one of Australia’s most infamous murders - that of the tragic Aaron Sherritt. See the site of the Byrne homestead and view the famous Kelly cave from the site of the former town of Sebastapol.
